Migraine Remedies to Head Massages 

There are a wide variety of recommended migraine remedies for pain relief.  Some of the more common remedies included prescribed and over the counter medications.  However, there are also a number of unconventional treatment options that migraine sufferers pursue to quell the pain.  Such options include:

Unconventional Migraine Remedies 

Ice Wrap Remedy

Ice wraps can be made at home or store-bought.  The wrap is usually placed on the neck or the temple of the sufferer.  The most attractive characteristic about this migraine remedy is its low price, effectiveness varies widely.

Magnesium migraine Remedy

Because magnesium is a chemical that helps to regulate dilation of arteries, it is sometimes used as a preventive and treatment option for migraines.  The magnesium can be taken in pill-form.

Herbal migraine Remedies

Herb remedies including feverfew and butterbur (extract)  have become popular remedies for migraine.  Feverfew has been scientifically evaluated in multiple studies to determine its effectiveness treating migraines, and most of the results are encouraging.

Drinking Water

Drinking water is believed to be a cheap migraine cure, simply because dehydration is a major cause of headaches, but this does not necessarily translate that it works for migraines.

Peppermint oil Remedy

As far as we know, there is nothing scientific to support the use of peppermint oil as a migraine remedy, but many people swear by it.

Foods containing niacin migraine Remedies

The vitamin niacin is believed to be a source of migraine relief.  Foods containing niacin include whole wheat, yeast, liver, fish, and nuts.

Compressing leaves of cabbage to your head

Although the evidence is unsupported, some use cabbage leaves as a source of migraine relief by putting the leaves in a cloth and applying to the head.  However, to be effective, the cabbage leaves must be fresh.

Use of vegetable juice and lemon crust

Vegetable juices, such as juice derived from cucumbers or carrots and the crust of lemons (ground up as a paste and applied to the head), are all believed to help alleviate migraine symptoms.  

Grape juice

Some believe that drinking the juice from squeezing ripe grapes is a natural migraine remedy, but this belief is not supported by scientific research.

Consuming large amounts of salt

Some believe that consuming salt in large quantities is a good home remedy for migraines.  Foods such as french fries or chips that are covered with salt are believed to  help mitigate the attack.

Head massage

Some believe in the power of massage, in this case, a person who massages the migraine sufferer’s head to ease the affects of the migraine.
